Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders : A Complete Guide to Getting Well and Staying Well by Fred Penzel "This is a true masterpiece. Not only is this book readable, interesting, packed with facts and informative, but it is also full of positive talk. I have done much research on this topic and by far this book is the most uplifting. It is non judgmental, full of hope, and leaves the reader with a new understanding of the disorders discussed. This book is excellent for sufferers, family members and professionals. Surely worth reading. If I could recommend one book on this topic this would be it. Thank you, Dr. Penzel. I am sure this will help many people."
The OCD Workbook : Your Guide to Breaking Free from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder by Bruce M. Hyman Ph.D., Cherry Pedrick R.N., Bruce Hyman "Thanks heavens for Dr. Bruce Hyman and Cherry Pedrick! This is by far the best and most comprehensive book on OCD currently available. This book is clearly written in easy-to-understand language. Not only does it provide an excellently organized self-help program, it also gives vital information for the family members of the person struggling with OCD, something that other books only touch on, at best.
For anyone dealing with OCD, whether you have it yourself, or are trying to be understanding and supportive of someone you know, this is a must read!"
Tormenting Thoughts and Secret Rituals : The Hidden Epidemic of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder by Ian Osborn "I am a licensed psychologist and a patient with obsessive compulsive symptoms. For over five years I have voraciously consumed the available literature to get help for myself and my clients. This book is a must have. Nothing I have read has been better.
Dr. Osborn's magic is in letting himself shine through as a fellow sufferer who is a deeply compassionate practitioner. His case studies show many of the subtle faces of OCD and give us insight into the suffering this disorder can bring.
A real highlight of the book is when he lets his group therapy patients speak to us through their ten strategies for coping with OCD.
This is a six star book."
Getting Control : Overcoming Your Obsessions and Compulsions by Lee Baer Ph.D. "I must admit I was skeptical when I started reading Dr. Baers revised edition of Getting Control. How can a book like this possibly get better? But it truly does. He has a lot more NEW information on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
As a sufferer of OCD, the first book was a life saver. This book gave me even more useful information and self help skills. I especially liked the new theory on thought stopping. He covers all the new medications approved for OCD. And other that are not approved but are showing promise. He covers the anxiety that comes with OCD and how to control it. There is more real life patient stories. That I could identify with. He even includes his e-mail address in case you would like to contact him! Again, Dr. Baur's true concern and compassion for his patients suffering shines through. This is a truly wonderful and extremely helpful book!
