Q. I am a 42 year old married woman who has been treated for depression for about the past 5 years. I have what I think are either minor bipolar episodes or hormone related episodes where I am attracted to other men and have fantasies about having sexual encounters with them. My husband and I are seeking treatment for his lack of desire to have sex, which has been a problem we've ignored for a while now.
A. Kind of difficult to tell what is going on here. Sexual fantasies on your part can be normal, a symptom of something you want but are not getting (husband's low desire), or part of a chemical imbalance. Usually, folks with too low an estrogen level lose their sex drive. If you are being worked up for too low a level, I doubt this is the source of the fantasies. It would lie more in the borderline or bipolar realm.
That said, with such a minimal amount of clinical data, it would be near impossible to give you specific feedback on treatment options. Follow you doctor's advice.
