Q. I am doing a paper on genetic disorders. I chose bipolar disorder for a specific reason. my grandmother had it, my father now has it, and I don't how far it went back on my fathers side. I just wanted to know the chances of me getting it. if you know any of these things, can you let me know. 1:are the genes that cause depression dominant or recessive, 2:is the disorder caused by duplication, an extra chromosome, or a missing chromosome. can you please give me some more information on bipolar disorder for my own personal knowledge and interest.
A. Bipolar disorder has a higher prevalence in families, but it is not recessive, dominant or associated with any chromosomal malformations we yet know about.
