Q. I've been reading Through the answers and noticed at least a few mention that Bipolar II actually Refers to a group of diseases. I was recently diagnosed Bipolar II and would Appreciate knowing more about what these diseases are and anything you could easily write about them in your column.

A. This is tough to answer specifically, but I will try to give you a general answer. BP II means you have mild highs and big lows. This could be a pure form of bipolar disorder alone, borderline personality, atypical depression, or depression with anxiety. In short, BP II is a symptom, not a single disease. H. Akiskal at the National Institute of Mental Health has written a good deal on BP II, and would be a good person's work to look up.
