Replies to Family Member Letter about Rages

Person with Bipolar Disorder

I have bipolar disorder and used to have rages. I was held accountable and was taught that this behavior is NOT acceptable for any reason. My spouse set boundaries to preserve his sanity as well as keep our children safe. If I went beyond those boundaries I had to leave the house or they would leave the house. Either way it was up to me to know that my symptoms were getting out of control and prevent them escalating to a rage. My spouse helped to identify symptoms when I couldn't see it and through therapy, medication, and support I haven't have a "rage" in years.

I hope this is helpful
