How to Survive Trauma: A Program for War Veterans & Survivors of Rape, Assault, Abuse or Environmental Disasters by Benjamin, Phd Colodzin " This sane and practical manual by an experienced trauma therapist offers a wide variety of therapeutic methods for dealing with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder as well easy-to-understand explanations for why post-traumatic symptoms occur. Post-traumatic Stress Disorder may afflict not just war veterans but anyone who has suffered a severe physical or emotional assault. This sane and practical manual by an experienced trauma therapist offers a wide variety of therapeutic methods as well easy-to-understand explanations for why post-traumatic symptoms occurs. Dr. Colodzin's view is that most post-traumatic symptoms were once in fact adaptive reactions to the situations in which they enveloped, but are no longer appropriate to a changed live situation."
The Laid Daughter: A True Story by Helen Bonner, Jan Huebsch (Editor) "I was sort of afraid to read this book - was afraid the incest story would be too hard to look at head on. Before I started, I decided I would stop if I wanted to. I never stopped. Bonner's way with words always made me feel safe. I knew as I read that things would work out - that I would be left with hope instead of despair. "Things working out" doesn't mean that the pain did not happen, but that Bonner found a way through it to a peaceful life. I am heartened by this book."
The Right to Innocence: Healing the Trauma of Childhood Sexual Abuse by Beverly Engel "Excellent book for beginners in recovery. By the time I found this book, I'd already read many others dealing with the harsh & painful topic of sexual abuse in childhood. I wish this book had been the first book on recovery I'd found. It is one which I buy to loan or pass on to friends new to recovery. All books on abuse are difficult to read, but 'The Right to Innocence' makes the step into recovery more bearable than some of the other books available.
Strong at the Broken Places: Overcoming the Trauma of Childhood Abuse by Linda T. Sanford "Like reading an autobiography, This book helped me understand myself. I can now begin to heal with the help of therapy and close friends because of the impact this book had on me. A must read for those who have suffered child abuse."
